AB Content  UpdateJuly  19,  2023Colchicine  for  Prevention  of  Cardiovascular  Disease?:  Recent  clinical  trials  suggest  that  low-dose  colchicine  is  a  safe,  cost-effective  adjunct  to  stain  therapy  for  secondary  prevention  of  ASCVD.  In  June  2023,  the  FDA  approved  the  use  of  low-dose  colchicine  (0.5  mg  once  daily)  to  reduce  the  risk  of  myocardial  infarction,  stroke,  coronary  revascularization,  and  cardiovascular  death  in  adult  patients  with  established  atherosclerotic  disease  or  multiple  risk  factors  for  cardiovascular  disease.  The  many  on-going  and  planned  clinical  trials  will  likely  provide  additional  evidence  needed  to  guide  therapeutic  recommendations  and  guidelines  for  the  cardiovascular  application  of  a  drug  that  has  been  used  for  many  years  to  treat  non-cardiovascular  inflammatory  disorders.
