Most commonly begins in childhood as a dystonic syndrome. Other clinical features include distorting muscle contractions of the face, limbs, and trunk, choreoathetosis, muscle rigidity, spasticity, seizures, and dementia. Less common symptoms include painful muscle spasms, mental retardation, and visual impairment.
