Y1 - 2014 N1 - T2 - Anesthesiology Core Review: Part One Basic Exam AB - Mechanical ventilation monitors are designed to continuously measure the characteristics of the inspiration and expiration cycle (ie, respiration). These monitors typically use sensors and electronic circuits to measure and display: (1) volume of air moved (eg, tidal and minute volume); (2) inspiratory and expiratory pressures (eg, mean airway pressure and positive and expiratory pressure); (3) the respiratory rate; and (4) to detect cessation of breathing (apnea). Monitors of mechanical ventilation also test system integrity, such as the presence of system leaks, patient disconnections, and operational verification of chosen setting and alarms.
