AB X-linked  disorder  characterized  by  degeneration  of  both  sensory  and  lower  motor  neurons  supplying  the  limb  and  bulbar  musculature  caused  by  a  defect  in  the  androgen  receptor.  Extraocular  muscles  are  spared,  possibly  because  of  reduced  numbers  of  androgen  receptors  in  these  muscles.
